When she started farming, she was a consultant at one of the financial institutions, where she resigned to pursue her farming career.
“I resigned as a financial consultant and took my savings to start my business. I was depressed after losing my father. I wanted to do something to make me feel better and honor my father,” shared Mathebula.
Currently, she has created jobs for three people and has also donated to various projects in the community.
Last year Mathebula celebrated her birthday by donating a braai stand and chickens to youth who wished to get into the Shisa Nyama Industry.
“I was blessed to be sponsored by NYDA in expanding my business after I have used my savings to start. They continue to help me even with training and support towards expanding the farm. I am working on expanding it with every help that I get. My dream is to create jobs for young people,” she said. She is currently occupying a position as a Deputy Chairperson of the Ehlanzeni District YARD Committee, an agricultural structure formed by youth that assists young farmers and advocates for the industry.
“I want to assist young farmers with the information I have. I want to encourage young people to start focusing on self-development, create opportunities, and occupy every space. The agricultural sector is big, and there is a gap that the youth must fill in,” she said.
